About Us
Muddy Patches is a small business, currently run by four staff and one volunteer. We are located on the site of the historic Abbotsbury village forge, now open as a café (with fresh, homemade cakes), gardens, vintage shop and more! It is also home to many animal residents, including a friendly flock of chickens and six rescued tortoises. The gardens have been curated with care, and we pride ourselves on being unique; you never know what you’ll find around the corner! We are particularly proud of the wild area, which was created in 2025- it has become a haven for pollinators and other wildlife (including slowworms, and an elusive grass snake that frequents our pond!), and is a lovely peaceful place to sit, listen to birdsong, and take in the views of the historic St. Catherine’s Chapel. We aim to have something for everyone; children can explore the fairy garden, feed the guinea pigs or even hold a tortoise. We offer a range of traditional and tropical plants, as well as antiques and collectibles, and even a newly opened toy shop with toys from all eras: with almost an acre to wander, we are sure there will be something to pique your interest! Free parking is available nearby, and well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome.
